Simon & Schuster UK Children’s Books has revealed two key appointments to their preschool team with Isobel Booth joining as editorial director for preschool & novelty and Verity Clark as art director in the same team.
Booth joins from Ladybird where she is currently senior commissioning editor for Ladybird Licensing, and Clark from independent children’s publisher New Frontier Publishing where she is senior designer.
Simon & Schuster UK (S&S UK) also previously announced the appointment of Louise Grosart who, as part of her new publishing strategy director role, will advise on preschool publishing.
As editorial director, Booth will report to picture-book publisher Helen Mackenzie Smith and her joint remit with Clark will be to develop and launch a brand-new preschool and novelty list as part of S&S UK Children’s Books’ ambitious growth plans.
In previous roles, Booth worked on established brands including Peppa Pig and Elmer, and played a key role in the establishment of the Pat-a-Cake preschool imprint at Hachette Children’s Group.
As art director, Clark will report to senior art director Jane Buckley and will be working closely with Booth. Clark joins S&S UK with extensive design experience gained through her time with Little Tiger Press and through her freelance work with a range of leading publishers.
Rachel Denwood, managing director of the Children’s Books team, said: “It is so exciting to welcome Isobel and Verity to S&S UK Children’s Books. They bring knowledge, creativity and passion. Together they will soon make waves with a distinctive, stellar new preschool list – a list which we will be backing with the marketing, publicity and retail clout to cut through in the UK and international markets.”
Booth said: “I’ve long admired S&S’ spectacular picture-book publishing and I’m looking forward to joining the fabulous team there. It is an enormous privilege to bring beautiful, meaningful and fun novelty books to the youngest of children to encourage them to take their very first steps on a lifelong journey of reading for pleasure."
Clark added: “To be part of a well-established and award-winning children’s department is a real privilege, and I am excited to help build a brand-new novelty and preschool list which will attract even more little ones to the wonderful world of books.”
