HarperCollins Children’s has promoted Asmaa Isse and Megan Reid to “to drive further growth in fiction”.
Isse has been appointed commissioning editor for fiction at Farshore and Electric Monkey while Reid is promoted to commissioning editor for fiction at HarperCollins Children’s Books.
Isse will report to editorial director Liz Sellen-Bankes. She joined the Farshore editorial team in 2021 and was most recently an editor.
HarperCollins said: “She has been instrumental in the publishing and stellar performance of bestselling YA series such as Shatter Me by TikTok sensation Tahereh Mafi, The Scarlet Veil by Shelby Mahurin and Every Exquisite Thing, a top 10 YA title on launch from Laura Steven.
“Asmaa has made a major contribution to Electric Monkey’s excellent performance and has brought a wealth of new voices and talent to Farshore’s fiction list, recently securing, at auction, the acquisition of debut young fiction series, The Misadventures of Mina Mahmood by Farhana Islam.”
Reid will report to publishing director Natalie Doherty. She was previously a fiction editor for the team and after joining in 2022 “quickly proved a dynamic member of the commissioning team with a number of hotly contested acquisitions”, HarperCollins said, “including much-buzzed YA debut Compass & Blade, and global graphic novel launch Brielle and Bear”. The publisher added: “Working closely with fiction publisher Nick Lake, she also provides invaluable support on bestselling brand authors including Michael Morpurgo, Anna James and Derek Landy.”

She has made a significant contribution to the incredible growth of Electric Monkey as the leading imprint in UK YA publishing. Her top-notch management of global bestsellers is incredibly impressive and she brings charm, creativity and a brilliantly commercial eye in spotting talent and acquiring new voices for the Farshore fiction list.”
Lake said: “I am thrilled for Megan. She is a brilliant editor who is admired by the entire team at HCCB, and trusted by our authors. She has made a major contribution to our division’s performance in countless ways and her superb eye for acquisitions, especially in YA, is helping us to grow in this key area - exciting things to come.”
