Prince Harry’s first TV interview for his upcoming memoir Spare (Transworld) will be broadcast on ITV at 9 p.m. on 8th January, two days before publication.
ITV confirmed it has recorded a long interview with Prince Harry, who left the royal family in 2020 to start a new life in North America with his wife Meghan Markle.
In a short video released for “Harry: The Interview” the Prince tells ITV News presenter Tom Bradby that the royal family has shown "absolutely no willingness to reconcile" with him and his wife.
He also spoke of his strained relationship with King Charles and Prince William, saying he wanted to "get his father back" and to "have his brother back”, that it "didn’t have to be this way", and that he wants "a family, not an institution".
It follows the Netflix documentary series, "Harry & Meghan", in which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex speak of the fallout from their decision to step down as working royals.
The Prince has also spoken to CBS’s "60 minutes", which will be broadcast in America on Sunday.
Last month publisher Transworld said there are no plans for a newspaper serialisation of Spare. No further information about the PR and marketing campaign for the book has been released.
The publisher’s synopsis says: “Spare takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the 20th century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow – and horror. As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling – and how their lives would play out from that point on.
“For Harry, this is his story at last. With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”
Prince Harry will support British charities with donations from his proceeds from Spare.
