The Quarto Group eco-imprint Ivy Kids will publish When We Went Wild, the first children's book from Isabella Tree, conservationist and author of Wilding (Picador, 2018). The book will be illustrated by Melbourne-based artist Allira Tee.
The book is the lead title for Ivy Kids' relaunch as a fully sustainable eco-imprint, and will be locally printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper using renewable energy, with outstanding carbon emissions offset. It will tell the "joyful" story of a farm returning to nature, inspired by real examples of rewilding conservation projects, says the publisher.
World rights were acquired through Philippa Sitters at David Godwin Associates, with publication scheduled for March 2021.
Publisher Georgia Amson-Bradshaw said: "What Isabella Tree showed adult readers with Wilding is that the environmental problems we face really do have solutions. When We Went Wild will share this wonderful, hopeful message with a young audience."
Tree commented: "I’m so excited about this book, and I hope When We Went Wild will inspire children in the same way that Wilding seems to have inspired adults, and spur them on, with optimism and energy, to embrace the power of nature and all it can do to solve the problems we’re facing."
