Jacaranda is to publish 10 exclusive editions of its most popular titles, in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
The new editions will be published between 17th November 2022 and February 2023. The collection will open with the posthumous release of Bafta award-winning writer Stephen S Thompson’s No More Heroes, a story of a man who becomes an overnight celebrity after his heroic actions on a London Tube following a bomb blast catches the eyes of the world.
McKitterick Prize-winner Anietie Isong’s Radio Sunrise, Fashion Africa by Jacqueline Shaw, and the debut novel and short story collection from Irenosen Okojie, Butterfly Fish and Speak Gigantular will also feature.
Other titles include Caribbean political thriller Glass by Patrick Wilmot, Satans and Shaitans from Nigerian author Obinna Udenwe, winner of the 2021 Chinua Achebe Prize, My Beautiful Shadow by Radhika Jha, The Blink That Killed the Eye by Anthony Anaxogorou, and From Pasta to Pigfoot, Frances Mensah Williams’ romantic exploration of the diasporic experience.
Founder Valerie Brandes said: “I started Jacaranda Books in 2012 with the idea of bringing to light the kinds of brilliant writers and stories that I knew were being written but were not being published. As we grew and discovered ever more exquisite books and their authors, that idea grew into a passion. Gradually, over the course of 10 challenge-filled but extremely satisfying years, that passion has become our purpose.”
Last month, the indie publisher held a 10th anniversary celebration at Carmelite House, where it was joined by Hachette c.e.o. David Shelley. Publishing veterans, including Margaret Busby were honoured and writers and industry colleagues affiliated with the house joined in toasting to its future.
The release will be supported with a 10-day campaign in partnership with Novellic, a mobile app for readers, with all titles available on the app for pre-order from 14th November.
The books will retail at £10.99 as B-format paperbacks, with the exception of Fashion Africa, which will retail at £14.99 as a special format paperback.
