Internet sensation Jackie Weaver’s first book You Do Have the Authority Here! has gone to Constable, promising "plain old common sense".
Andreas Campomar, publisher at Constable has bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Annabel Merullo at PFD. Hardback publication is slated for 16th September 2021.
Weaver is chief officer of the Cheshire Association of Local Councils and last December she acted as facilitator at a chaotic meeting of the Handforth Parish Council. “Since a recording of the meeting went viral in February 2021, Jackie has found herself catapulted to fame — she has been immortalised in sponge cake, had her face and catchphrases printed on T-shirts and fridge magnets and cut her first dance track," the publisher explained. "Jackie recently launched chart-topping podcast, ‘Jackie Weaver Has the Authority’, in which she has hosted a wide range of guests including Jack Whitehall, Anton du Beke and Jeremy Vine.”
The book's blurb reads: “Are you tired of being patronised and belittled? Exhausted by being told what to think? Fed up with being talked over and ignored? For every woman who has had to endure that ‘I know what’s best for you’ tone, You Do Have the Authority Here! is the book for you. The feminist political icon we didn’t know we needed, the indomitable Jackie Weaver shares her standing orders for life, including Zoom etiquette, asserting yourself in the workplace and how to charge of your life.”
Weaver said: “What a terrific opportunity to be able to pass on things that I feel have helped me to negotiate the past 62 years – things that I think of as plain old common sense – something that we have lost sight of.”
Campomar said: “No nonsense, witty and incisive, Jackie Weaver will show you that you do have the authority here. This is an essential handbook for getting things done and pressing mute on the noise. We are thrilled to be publishing the first book from Jackie Weaver, the internet sensation who is here to stay.”
