DK Children’s has announced a series of promotions within the leadership team. Francesca Young, who has acquired rights to books by authors Jamie Smart and Cornelia Funke, has been appointed associate publishing director.
She will work to uncover new publishing opportunities across fiction, author-led and gift titles, and will also take on preschool publishing, reporting to Arabella Stein, trade strategy director. Stein will continue to drive DK Children’s trade initiatives while identifying new strategic opportunities.
James Mitchem has also been promoted to publisher at DK Children’s. He will work on expanding DK Children’s non-fiction publishing, exploring new topics and formats, including narrative non-fiction.
Meanwhile, Gemma Farr has been appointed associate publisher, overseeing the three-to-five and five-to-seven years non-fiction categories. She will focus on developing titles for the global market, while also utilising her commissioning expertise to discover new authors and approaches for these age groups.
Issy Walsh has been promoted to senior project manager, and will continue to support the non-trade list and work closely with DK’s global sales teams to create sales opportunities.
Mitchem and Farr will report directly to managing director of DK Children’s Sarah Larter, alongside Andrew Macintyre, who will continue as publisher for older non-fiction and reference titles.
Larter said: "We are excited to bring together the skills of this experienced leadership team to advance our ambitious goals. With their collective expertise, we are well-positioned to enhance our reputation as a leading global children’s publisher, delivering exceptional titles across all age ranges and genres."
