Jane Sturrock has been appointed Thorsons and Lifestyle publisher at HarperNonFiction. She will join on 7th October 2024.
Sturrock joins the division following nine years at Quercus, where she published the likes of Sarah Knight, Layla Saad, Francesc Miralles and Héctor Garcia. At HarperNonFiction she will head up the cookery, lifestyle and Thorsons team.
Her direct reports will include Thorsons and publishing director Lydia Good, with news of an imprint launch from Good and her team to follow shortly. Sturrock will commission directly into Thorsons with a focus on health, wellbeing and personal development as she begins to put plans in place for the centenary celebration of the list.
Sarah Emsley, managing director and publisher of HarperNonFiction and HarperNorth, said: “Innovative and dynamic, with an enviable track record of success, Jane is a publishing force to be reckoned with.
“With an unrivalled breadth of knowledge across the non-fiction genres, a wonderfully commercial mindset and a passion for publishing in the health and wellbeing space, she is perfectly placed to supercharge the varied and vibrant lists that come under the HarperNonFiction Lifestyle umbrella. Her knowledge and skillset dovetail perfectly with Lydia Good’s illustrated-book expertise, and I cannot wait to see what they can achieve together.”
Sturrock said: “I cannot wait to get going at HarperCollins. The opportunity to lead the lifestyle side of the HarperNonFiction list and to work with Sarah Emsley was too good to pass up. Thorsons has a long and distinguished history of publishing inspiring and transformative books, so it is thrilling to have the chance to build on this legacy for readers in the UK and around the globe.
“It is clear the team already have a knack for identifying new talent and publishing with flair, so I’m looking forward to working with them to cement HarperCollins’ reputation for publishing the biggest and most exciting books in the personal development, cookery, health and lifestyle space. I have learnt so much over the past nine years at Quercus and was privileged to work with a brilliant team of colleagues and authors, but the time is right for a fresh challenge.”
