Waterstones is launching its first-ever Children’s Book Festival, which will be held from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th February 2025.
The festival will take place across different locations in Lincoln, including The Engine Room, Southside, the Lincoln Library and Waterstones.
Featuring author events, comic and writing workshops, storytelling, craft activities and character costume appearances, the festival will be a "family-friendly celebration of stories and illustration". It will kick off with free school events in The Engine Shed, while Waterstones Children’s Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce will be joined by Cressida Cowell and Phil Earle to read from and discuss their books. AF Steadman will close out the day with a ticketed family event around her latest book in the Skandar series (Simon & Schuster Children’s UK).
Further events will take place across the weekend with authors and illustrators such as Jamie Smart, Ramzee, Jaqueline Wilson, Sue Hendra, Serena Patel and Alice Oseman. There will also be activities held in the Waterstones bookshop and in the local library.
Kate Melton, bookshop manager at Waterstones Lincoln, said: "This wonderful opportunity to celebrate creativity and inspire young readers is testament to Lincoln’s vibrant high street and our community’s love of books."
Gary Deane, Waterstones Children’s events coordinator, added: "By providing children with the opportunity to listen to stories, take part in workshops and events, and meet many of today’s bestselling and most beloved authors, we hope to create an environment that helps foster a lifelong enjoyment of books. We can’t wait to welcome children from near and far to join us in celebrating the pleasures of reading."
