Natalie Jerome has launched a new agency, Originate Literary Agency (OLA), which aims to champion “social change through storytelling”. Before to that, she worked as an independent agent with Aevitas and has held positions at publishing houses including Penguin Random House, Pan Macmillan, Bonnier Books and HarperCollins where she specialised in commercial non-fiction.
Jerome’s clients include the boxer Amir Khan and technology executive Eric Collins.
Jerome said of her new venture: “Purposeful use of stories to influence, inspire and educate can change individual lives, fostering greater empathy and understanding, building confidence and resilience. Originate Literary Agency is all about platforming new voices on a global stage, pushing boundaries, creating change and challenging ourselves as readers and authors.”
Additional clients include David Harewood, whose book Maybe I Don’t Belong Here: A Memoir of Race, Identity, Breakdown and Recovery (Pan Macmillan) was named as one of the Observer’s best memoirs of 2021. Jerome also acts as agent for the comedian Sir Lenny Henry, who published The Boy With Wings (Pan Macmillan) for World Book Day 2023.
Jerome is the agency’s sole employee, but she hopes to expand in the future. She told The Bookseller: "I’m really excited about what lies ahead and all the possibilities here, hitting the ground running!"
