Lisa Jewell and Anthony Horowitz are among the six-strong line-up for the Richard and Judy Book Club this summer.
Jewell returns to the Book Club for the sixth time with her latest novel The Family Remains (Century), the sequel to the 2019 Book Club pick, The Family Upstairs (Century). Judy Finnigan said she “adored” the book, adding: “Lisa Jewell hasn’t let me or her millions of fans down”. A gripping psychological thriller that delves into the dark secrets hidden in families, Richard Madley said he was “immediately hooked”, adding that Jewell’s latest thriller firmly stands on its own as the secrets of an unsolved mystery unravel.
The second title in this season’s Book Club is With a Mind to Kill (Jonathan Cape) by Anthony Horowitz, a brand new storyline for the iconic British spy James Bond, picking up where Ian Fleming left off. Finnigan said: “He’s older now. He’s almost exhausted by torture and the endless double-game. You’re never sure what someone’s going to say to him next.”
Agent Seventeen (Hodder & Stoughton) by John Brownlow is the next title on the list, described as “a thrilling hitman novel” that follows the story of a freelance gun for hire to anyone who can afford him. The Guilty Couple (Avon) by C L Taylor “a page-turning thriller that explores the consequences of a miscarriage of justice” has also been selected.
Next up in the Book Club is The IT Girl (Simon & Schuster UK) by Ruth Ware, “a thrilling mystery" set in a picturesque Oxford College, where Hannah – a wide-eyed, working-class student – falls for the charm of popular "it" girl April. Yet, the spell shatters as Hannah finds April’s body and a suspected stalker is quickly convicted. Ten years later and plagued by the guilt that an innocent man went down for the murder, Hannah revisits the crime to uncover what really happened.
Finally, concluding Richard and Judy’s Summer Book Club collection and a new author to the Book Club is Mark Dawson with his novel The House in the Woods (Welbeck), a “chilling” tale of a festive family-gathering-turned-gruesome-tragedy.
The summer Richard and Judy Book Club launches with another series of podcasts on 11th May. W H Smith customers can purchase exclusive special editions of the titles with bonus content.
