Jessica Kingsley Publishers has announced the launch of a new healthcare list focusing on innovation and inequalities in the areas of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, women’s health and midwifery. The first two titles will be published this month.
From evidence-based prevention programmes to informative guides, the publisher says its new list will equip healthcare professionals with skills and knowledge. Its products will span multiple formats, including print books, e-books, audiobooks, workbooks and webinars.
The first of the inaugural two titles, Supporting Queer Birth by A J Silver, a birth and postnatal doula who created the Queer Birth Club, the UK’s only LGBT+ competency workshop for those working in “the birth world”, features stories and experiences of LGBT+ parents and professionals in the field.
Supporting Breastfeeding Past the First Six Months and Beyond by Emma Pickett is an evidence-based guide for professionals, covering essential information including starting solids alongside breastfeeding, nursing manners, and common problems and challenges.
Sarah Hamlin, senior commissioning editor, said: “We’re excited to be launching the Healthcare list, which will showcase expertise and innovation across the health professions. We’ll be publishing resources that support practitioners in their day-to-day work, offering perspectives on topics such as tackling health inequalities, and carrying out person-centred care. We have some incredible books in the pipeline that will mark JKP as a go-to source for trusted information.”
Yoga on Prescription by Paul Fox and Heather Mason will follow in June. The evidence-based 10-week prevention programme targets NHS patients at risk of becoming chronically ill and supports them to bring about lifestyle change through regular yoga practice.
