Simon & Schuster UK has appointed Joanna Lee to the newly created position of senior commissioning editor at its literary imprint Scribner.
Lee has been editor at Atlantic Books since April 2022. Her acquisitions in that role include Ram Murali’s Death in the Air, Clare Beams’ The Garden, Yeji Y Ham’s The Invisible Hotel, Kate Greathead’s The Book of George and Jean-Baptiste Andrea’s Watching Over Her, which won the Prix Goncourt in 2023.
Lee previously worked at Curtis Brown, assisting Karolina Sutton, and began her publishing career at Faber. Lee is also the co-founder, with Maria Garbutt-Lucero, of the ESEA Publishing Network, which launched its inaugural sell-out festival at Foyles last September. In her new role, Lee will report to Sophie Missing, publishing director at Scribner. She takes up her position on 29th July.
Missing said: “I’m delighted to be welcoming Joanna to Scribner. I admire her excellent taste, passion, dynamism and integrity. It’s an exciting moment for Scribner, as we continue to grow our publishing and build upon our literary heritage to create a distinctive identity. We’re all thrilled to have Joanna on-board and can’t wait to see how her vision will help shape the list as it evolves.”
Lee said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Sophie and the brilliant team at Scribner, whose intelligent, stylish publishing I’ve long admired: it’s an unmissable opportunity to help shape such a stellar list. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone at Atlantic for a wonderful couple of years, and am so excited for what the future holds.”
