Jon McGregor wins £100k IMPAC prize

Even the Dogs by Jon McGregor has won the 2012 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, chosen from a longlist of 147 titles.

The €100,000 prize is the largest for a single novel published in English, and titles are nominated from public libraries around the world.

"Even the Dogs is an intimate exploration of life at the edges of society—littered with love, loss, despair, and a half-glimpse of redemption,” said the lord mayor and patron of the award, Andrew Montague.

McGregor is the third British author to win the prize, following Andrew Miller’s win in 1999 for Ingenious Pain and Nicola Barker’s win for Wide Open in 2000.

Even the Dogs, published by Bloomsbury, was nominated by M I Rudomino State Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow. The International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award is presented annually to promote excellence in world literature.
