Picador has promoted Sophie Jonathan and Orla King within its editorial team.
Jonathan, recently back from maternity leave, returns as publishing director. In 2018, she was The Bookseller’s Shooting Star and edited Picador’s two most recent Booker nominated titles, Trust and Maps of Our Spectacular Bodies. She published Emma Stonex’s hugely successful novel, The Lamplighters and has acquired and published some of the company’s biggest authors including Emily St John Mandel, Megan Hunter, Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Elizabeth Macneal and Cecilia Rabess.
King has been promoted to editor. She will work closely with Picador publisher Mary Mount on some of her titles and will continue to acquire and publish her own authors too. Picador said: “In the two years she has been at Picador, Orla has overseen the publication of many of Sophie’s titles and is an incredibly astute editor and publisher, working with writers such as Hernan Diaz, Maddie Mortimer, Elizabeth Macneal, Emma Stonex and Niamh Mulvey. Her first acquisition as editor, The Lantern of Lost Memories by Sanaka Hiiragi, has already been a huge hit in international rights.”
Mount said: “I am very pleased that we have been able to bolster our already terrific fiction team at Picador. Both Sophie and Orla have already made fantastic contributions to our publishing and I hugely look forward to reading the writers they acquire and publish in the years ahead.”
