Author Jonathan Stroud is working with Read On, a four-year project funded in part by the EU, to encourage young people across Europe to write fan fiction.
Stroud will work with The FanFiction Lab, part of Read On, in challenging writers aged 12-19 to create work based on his Bartimaeus stories, which are published in the UK by Hyperion Books. Sevenpartners, including Writing West Midlands and Ireland’s West Cork Music, will promote the project and Stroud will visit five of the partner countries this autumn and winter: the UK, Norway, Spain, Italy and Portugal.
“I’m honoured to be part of the FanFiction Lab project,” said Stroud. “To see my books, characters and stories used as a springboard for children’s imaginations couldn’t be more exciting. I can’t wait to read where they take Bartimaeus, who he meets along the way and what mischief he gets up to. The highlight of the collaboration for me will be visiting the different countries involved and meeting the young writers face to face.”
The FanFiction Lab project launches today (7th May).
