The British Book Awards 2025 star-studded judging panel has today been announced. The panel includes broadcasters Mary Portas, Adam Rutherford, Nihal Arthanayake, Vogue Williams and Cariad Lloyd as well as TV presenters Radzi Chinyanganya and Reeta Chakrabarti. Also included are bestselling authors Alice Oseman and Lucy Foley and the previous two Authors of the Year Katherine Rundell and Bonnie Garmus.
Judges across the 13 Book of the Year categories will include celebrated authors, illustrators, journalists and trade professionals. Rounding out the lineup are Hannah Witton (creator, creator consultant and mentor), Nikita Gill (poet and author of Your Heart Is the Sea), Georgina Godwin (broadcaster, Monocle), Lisa Smosarski (editorial director, Stylist), Sarah Gwonyoma (content creator), Arifa Akbar (critic, the Guardian), David Headley (Goldsboro Books co-founder), Laura Mucha (poet and author of We Need to Talk About Love), Leena Norms (poet, content creator and presenter), Anna Bassi (editorial director, The Week Junior), Bea Carvalho (head of books, Waterstones), Imogen Russell-Williams (critic, the Guardian), Johanna Thomas-Corr (critic, the Times and Sunday Times), Coco Hagi (content creator), Alison Flood (comment and culture editor, New Scientist, Observer) and Hannah MacInnes (broadcaster, Times Radio).

This year marks the 35th Anniversary of the Awards, also know as the Nibbies, produced by The Bookseller. It is the "definitive celebration of the UK and Ireland’s best-loved books and authors, and the industry behind the scenes who make them".
The 13 Book of the Year Awards categories are Children’s Illustrated, Children’s Non-Fiction, Children’s Fiction, Fiction, Debut Fiction, Crime & Thriller, Pageturner, Non-Fiction: Lifestyle and Illustrated, Non-Fiction: Narrative, Audiobook Fiction, Audiobook Non-Fiction and Discover (a breakthrough award with a focus on under-represented voices), as well as the Overall Book of the Year.

This year’s ceremony will be hosted in London on Monday 12th May, where the 2025 winners will be unveiled in person and online, uniting the book industry in celebration of its many achievements over the last 12 months.
