TV presenter Kate Humble has signed with Octopus imprint Aster for a book about the benefits and pleasures of walking.
Stephanie Jackson, publishing director at Octopus, acquired world rights all languages to Humble's Thinking on My Feet: The Small Joy of Putting One Foot in Front of Another from Rosemary Scoular at United Agents.
Thinking on My Feet tells the story of Humble’s walking year – shining a light on the benefits of this simple activity. Humble’s "inspiring" narrative records her walks (and runs) throughout a single year and charts her feelings and impressions throughout – capturing the perspectives that only a journey on foot allows.
Humble said she hopes her book will encourage more people to discover the pleasures of moving through the world at walking pace.
"When we take our first steps as babies it is cause for great celebration", she said. "This book continues to celebrate the simple, fundamental act of walking, the remarkable effect it has on our minds and bodies and the pleasure of moving through the world at walking pace. My hope is that it will achieve two things - be a pleasure to read, but also encourage the reader to pull on a pair of boots and go for a walk - for no other reason than they want to."
Humble is a farmer, writer, activist, entrepreneur and TV presenter. She has presented programmes such as "Springwatch & Autumnwatch", "Extreme Wives" and "Back to the Land". In 2018, she will be appearing in several new BBC series, going on a national speaking tour and rolling out her Humble natural beauty range in supermarkets nationwide.
Jackson said: "While we all appreciate the revitalising effects of a daily walk, making it happen can be another matter. Kate Humble’s advocacy of this simple act – as told through the thoughtful, wise and perceptive narrative lens of her own experience – shows us that its true purpose transcends the need to get from A to B, and that it isn’t an indulgence – rather a necessity. This is a book that will speak not only to Kate’s substantial following and anyone interested in the nature, self-care and mindfulness trends, but also to those seeking a really simple way to enhance their wellness overall."
Thinking on My Feet: The Small Joy of Putting One Foot in Front of Another will be published by Aster on 4th October 2018 at £20 in hardback.
