Lizzie Kaye, formerly of Unbound, has joined David & Charles as commissioning editor, to lead the development of the company's emerging wellbeing list.
Kaye was previously commissioning editor at Unbound where she published illustrated titles and graphic novels with a focus on market trends. In June 2020, she went on to launch her own graphic novel imprint Cast Iron Books.
David & Charles m.d. James Woollam said: "This is an exciting appointment for us as we continue to grow our business as an independent publisher. Consumer lifestyles have changed in the past 18 months, and we have seen growth in our craft and art books and branded online courses. Our developing wellbeing list will build on this and title success we’re already seeing this year with books such as Mood Crystals, 100 Plants that Heal and The Witch’s Yearbook.”
Kaye said: “The David & Charles imprint has a legacy of publishing into a wide range of subjects and is a global leader in art and craft books. There is a fantastic opportunity to stretch into adjacent categories, exploring the wider lifestyles of established readers. I’m looking forward to developing the wellbeing list, and we are opening a submissions window to find new talent and ideas.”
David & Charles Ltd was formed in 2019 to complete a management buyout of the David & Charles imprint and publishing assets from former owners F+W Media International. The imprint was originally founded in 1960. David &Charles was nominated in the Independent Publisher of the Year category at the British Book Awards 2021 and is the current IPG Specialist Consumer Publisher of the Year.
The submissions window for new books will run until 30th January 2022. Kaye can be contacted on lizzie@davidandcharles.com.
