Therese Keating has been appointed senior commissioning editor at Raven Books, as the Bloomsbury crime imprint expands.
Keating, who will report to publishing director Alison Hennessey, will grow the commercial side of the Raven Books list, bringing in new areas of the genre, from cosy crime to regional detective series.
Currently at Viper Books, winner of Imprint of the Year at the British Book Awards, she was originally appointed to cover Miranda Jewess’ maternity leave, before being offered a permanent role at the publisher. Previously she worked at Bookouture as a commissioning editor and started her editorial career at Quercus, where she worked with authors including Elly Griffiths and Philip Kerr, and was a mentor for Hachette’s Future Bookshelf programme.
The appointment comes as Raven celebrates a successful year, including the publication of Rosie Andrews’ Sunday Times bestseller The Leviathan, which has now sold in excess of 15,000 copies, according to the publisher, and two Waterstones Thriller of the Month selections in Lightseekers by Femi Kayode and Greenwich Park by Katherine Faulkner.
Hennessey, who founded the imprint five years ago, said: “I knew when it came to the next stage of our growth here at Raven Books that I wanted someone with a great commercial eye and a genuine passion not just for our books, but for the books that we weren’t yet publishing at Raven, and in Therese I found the perfect candidate. I couldn’t be happier that we will have her experience, her energy and her enthusiasm to help take the imprint to even greater heights, and I am so excited to see the fantastic new voices she will bring to our list.”
Emily Jones, editorial assistant, will continue to work for Hennessey and will also support Keating in the new role.
Keating added: “To get to work on one of the most dynamic thriller lists around is exciting enough – to be able to work on two is a bit of a dream come true. I’m so grateful to the Viper team and authors for trusting me with their brilliant books for what’s been an incredible year, and will miss them all dearly, but the chance to work on the Raven list was irresistible. I’ve admired their creative publishing and deliciously dark sensibility for ages. Now I can’t wait to be part of their plans for the future, and to be able to bring new authors into the nest!”
Her first day at Bloomsbury will be 5th December and she can be contacted there on therese.keating@bloomsbury.com.
