A star-studded cast including singer Alicia Keys, actress Ashley Judd and Hamilton star Phillipa Soo are lined up to narrate the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls audiobook.
The bestselling feminist children’s book by Francesca Cavallo and Elena Favilli, which stormed the UK charts last year, is being released as an audiobook for the first time on 19th June by Penguin Random House Audio.
Along with Keys, Judd and Soo, the other big hitting female narrators include playwright Danai Gurira, musician Esperanza Spalding, actress Janeane Garofalo, Mozhan Marnò from Netflix’s “House of Cards”, Rowan Blanchard from “Girl Meets World” and Samira Wiley of the “Handmaid’s Tale” and “Orange is the New Black”.
The book features a number of bedtime stories about the lives of extraordinary women past and present, each a short biography written in the style of a fairy tale, highlighting painters, scientists, dancers, chefs, astronauts, jazz singers, pharaohs, boxers, writers, and political leaders.
“Our goal as writers and activists has always been to write stories that could give voice to extraordinary women who had been forgotten or belittled,” said authors Cavallo and Favilli. “To see those same stories now come to life through the voices of some of the most inspiring rebel girls of our time could not feel more powerful.”
The title began as a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter before it was snapped up by Penguin Random House imprint Particular Books. It has currently sold just under 314,000 copies in the UK through Nielsen BookScan for £3.8m since March 2017.
The audiobook is being sold across all audiobook retailers.
