Ansa Khan Khattak is leaving Picador to join Hutchinson Heinemann as senior commissioning editor.
She will join the Cornerstone imprint on 14th March, reporting to publishing director Ailah Ahmed.
Khan Khattak is currently commissioning editor at Picador, where she has published authors including Dima Alzayat, Wendy Erskine, Mary South and Éric Vuillard. In her new role, she will acquire literary fiction alongside Ahmed and Charlotte Cray who returns from maternity leave on 11th April.
Ahmed said: “I am thrilled that Ansa will be joining. With her ability to spot and nurture new talent and the ambition with which she publishes her authors she is going to bring many exciting things to Hutchinson Heinemann. I can’t wait to see what she acquires for the list. And along with Charlotte Cray’s return, I’m looking forward to seeing Hutchinson Heinemann’s fiction commissioning team full and in action.”
Khan Khattak added: “I can’t imagine a better place to have started my career as an editor than at Picador. I’m so grateful to my wonderful colleagues and above all the brilliant authors I’ve had the chance to publish who have trusted me with their work. But the energy and ambition with which Hutchinson Heinemann has been launched and the chance to publish new literary voices makes this, for me, an unmissable opportunity. I can’t wait to help shape the literary side of such an exciting imprint.”
Hutchinson Heinemann relaunched in September 2021 as a major literary list with a broader remit. The imprint strives to publish literary and book club fiction as well as a broader range of non-fiction encompassing history, politics, popular science, polemic, memoir and biography.
