"The Crown" actress Vanessa Kirby is one of the high profile actors taking on new unabridged recordings of Philippa Gregory’s Tudor novels as HarperCollins celebrates Love Audio. Meanwhile "Downton Abbey" actress Joanne Froggatt will narrate Adele Parks’ upcoming thriller.
Kirby will be joined by Alex Kingston of "Doctor Who" and "The Hobbit" actor Richard Armitage in narrating Gregory’s novels, HarperCollins revealed following Love Audio's launch on Monday (11th June). The annual celebration of audiobooks also saw figures from the Publishers Association which showed that audio downloads had risen a significant 22% last year.
The audiobooks of Gregory's Tudor novels will also feature new afterwords from the author revealing the inspiration behind each of the six titles and were cast by senior audio editor Fionnuala Barrett, will be a mixture of single- and multi-voice narrations, a HarperCollins spokesperson said.
Gregory said: “It’s so exciting to hear the books come to life in a new way, with these wonderful actors making these well-loved characters speak and breathe.”
Kirby, who will narrate The Other Boleyn Girl, revealed that she has been “a fan of Philippa Gregory’s work for many years and so I was thrilled by the opportunity to bring Mary Boleyn’s incredible story to life in audiobook”.
Rachel Mallender, group audio director said: “HarperCollins is committed to creating world class audio to serve an ever hungry and increasing market. I’m thrilled that such a stellar line up of great actors are giving a voice to Philippa’s fantastic novels.”
Meanwhile HQ has also revealed that Parks’ forthcoming I Invited Her In will be read by Froggatt who played lady's maid Anna Bates in "Downton Abbey" and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television.
Parks said: “’Joanne is the perfect person to narrate I Invited Her In; she has a complex interesting body of work and is such an intelligent, nuanced brave actor. I know she will understand my characters and bring to life the two female protagonists with genuine compassion. I think we’re all in for a treat.”
Billed as “a tale of jealousy, betrayal and revenge”, I Invited Her In will be published on the 20th September in paperback original with an r.r.p. of £7.99, the e-book will retail at £5.99, and the audio version will cost £12.99.
