The Kirkdale Bookshop in southeast London has started a fundraiser to help with the costs of repairing its shop, which was broken into on the morning of Sunday 17th December.
A week before Christmas, as the festive rush began for bookshops across the country, intruders tried different ways of breaking into the shop, including throwing a brick at the door. Following three attempts to break in, they then entered by kicking in the glass door and took the money from the till of the bookshop, which had just seen the busiest day of the year.
The fundraiser has a £3,000 target and has already reached £982, donated by 37 people.
"We have received a plethora of wonderful requests from people who would like to support the shop by donating money to us to cover any extra expenses we might incur due to the break in," the owners said on the Gofundme page.
"We’d like to thank everyone for the support they have shown us over the last few days, it means so much and has been so heartwarming, especially at this time of year," the organisers added.
