Kirsty Greenwood’s romantic comedy The Love of My Afterlife (Penguin Random House) is set to be adapted into a feature film by Wayfarer Studios.
The studio won the rights following a "hotly contested" auction. Actor and theatre director Vicky Jones has signed on as screenwriter.
“The Love of My Afterlife is an unabashed all-the-way-in romantic comedy, hugely inspired by the high concept rom-com movies of the ’90s and 2000s,” said Greenwood. “I’m overjoyed to be working with the thoughtful, dynamic team at Wayfarer and Paper Pictures to turn this novel into a movie of our own.”
Published in July 2024, the novel follows protagonist Delphie who, after dying choking on a burger, finds herself in the afterlife staring at the man of her dreams. When Delphie is offered 10 days to return to life to find her potential soulmate, she jumps at the chance and enlists her neighbour Cooper to help.
Andrew Calof, president of production and development at Wayfarer Studios, commented: “Kirsty Greenwood’s The Love of My Afterlife evokes equal measures of both humor and despair while taking readers on a daring journey of self-discovery.”
The film will be executive produced by Steve Sarowitz and Jamey Heath of Wayfarer Studios, with Kirsty Greenwood. Justin Baldoni and Andrew Calof will produce for Wayfarer Studios along with Carla Hacken from Paper Pictures.
Wayfarer Studios recently adapted Colleen Hoover’ It Ends with Us, starring Blake Lively, directed by and starring Baldoni.
Greenwood is represented by Hannah Ladds and Hannah Todd at Madeleine Milburn Literary, TV & Film Agency.
