Knights Of has acquired the first middle-grade novel from New York Times bestselling author Nic Stone, entitled Clean Getaway.
Editorial director Eishar Brar acquired world English rights, excluding North America, from Anna Carmichael at Abner Stein on behalf of Mollie Glick at Creative Artists Agency.
Aimed at fans of Jason Reynolds, Ross Welford and Kwame Alexander and set against the backdrop of the segregation history of the American South, Clean Getaway will be published on 5th March 2020 as a £6.99 paperback original.
Clean Getaway follows 11-year- old Scoob and is billed by Knights Of as “a story about coming to terms with the past and facing the humanity of our heroes, [taking the] reader on a road trip through America’s past and present”.
A New York Times bestselling author, Stone’s previous three YA novels were published by Simon & Schuster UK.
Brar said: “We are so thrilled to bring Nic Stone’s first middle-grade novel to the UK. Clean Getaway has all the warmth and emotional punch she is known for, as well as being an enormously fun adventure story.”
Stone, who is based in Atlanta in the US, added: "Through Scoob and G'ma's relationship and adventure, I wanted to explore the experience of beginning to see the world in a different way as a young person and coming to grips with the humanity of your heroes; and how those pivotal events often go hand in hand."
