Candida Lacey, former publishing director at Myriad Editions, is joining the newly announced Footnote Press as consulting editor.
Lacey will start her new role in December and will work closely with Footnote Press m.d. Vidisha Biswas to help curate the publisher’s inaugural catalogue.
Footnote Press, announced last month in partnership with Bonnier Books UK, is a mission-oriented publisher of politically-engaged and socially-aware fiction and non-fiction. Focusing on migration, identity and marginalised knowledge and experience, its publishing will span history, philosophy, memoir, culture, current affairs and more.
The press will launch in early 2022 with its first books publishing in the spring. Recruitment for an editorial director is also currently under way.
Lacey oversaw Myriad Editions for more than 15 years before stepping down as publishing director in October after Myriad’s Oxford-based parent company, New Internationalist, scaled back some of its publishing activities due to the pandemic. She has held previous commissioning editor roles at Pandora Press, Unwin Hyman, HarperCollins and Jonathan Cape. Authors she has worked with include Lisa Blower, Margaret Busby and Cynthia Enloe among others.
Biswas said: “Candida is a true trailblazer, and I have been a fan of her bold and imaginative publishing for years. We are thrilled to have her join forces with us during Footnote’s crucial launch phase.”
The press is open for submissions and details can be found online. Lacey can be contacted at candida@footnotepress.com.
