Curtis Brown’s Joanna Lee has moved to Atlantic Books, joining the company as commissioning editor for fiction.
Lee most recently worked as Karolina Sutton’s assistant at Curtis Brown, and has previously been at Faber.
In her new role she will will be acquiring primarily across literary fiction and fiction in translation, but also some memoir and narrative non-fiction.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the formidable team at Atlantic Books, and to have the opportunity to build on such stylish literary foundations," she said. "I feel fortunate to have learned from the very best with Karolina and at Curtis Brown, and to be able to take this wealth of wisdom with me on such an exciting new venture. I can’t wait to get started.”
She added: “I’m looking for books that don’t compromise on style or heart; that are committed to craft without feeling exclusionary; that ring emotionally true and feel compulsive to read."
Lee will be reporting to publishing director James Roxburgh, who said: "Joanna is a formidably smart young publisher, with the kind of cultural range that goes from reviewing poetry for the LARB to binge-watching ’Love is Blind’ on Netflix. I think her taste and vision will be vital to the continued growth of Atlantic Fiction.”
