Sarah Levison and Lucy Courtenay have been promoted to editorial director and senior commissioning editor respectively at children’s publisher Farshore.
Stepping into the permanent role of editorial director, Levison will continue to secure high-profile acquisitions alongside Liz Bankes, editorial director, who returns from parental leave in 2023.
Levison joined the Farshore editorial team in 2018 and has been instrumental in the publishing success of bestselling authors including British Book Award winner Holly Jackson and Laura Ellen Anderson, as well as making strategic acquisitions for the Farshore list including Sarah Underwood’s Lies We Sing to the Sea and Jennifer Killick’s Dread Wood series.
Courtenay, who joined Farshore in 2019, has been promoted from managing editor to senior commissioning editor. In her new role she will be taking on acquiring responsibility, having recently edited high-profile authors such as Jamila Gavin, and securing key acquisitions at auction, soon to be announced.
Both will continue to report to fiction publishing director Lindsey Heaven. Heaven said of the team changes: “Being able to officially recognise the strength of the Farshore editorial team with these promotions, at a time of rapid growth and market-leading publishing is something we are very proud of. Lucy and Sarah are incredible editorial talents within a team that has many years of experience, impeccable editorial judgement and author care which is second-to-none. This has translated into an outstanding year of growth for us, particularly on the Electric Monkey imprint which goes from strength to strength with its bestselling and award-winning list.”
Levison said: “In the four years since I joined the Farshore and Electric Monkey team I’ve had the most wonderful time, working with some of the best in the business! I am delighted to be stepping up into the role of editorial director at this hugely exciting time of growth.”
Courtenay added: “I am incredibly excited to be commissioning into our extraordinary list. Farshore and Electric Monkey have proven time and again that we are the publisher and imprint to watch. It’s an absolute privilege to work more closely with our amazing authors and agents, and I can’t wait to find new and exciting voices to join the party.”
