There have been two promotions in Hutchinson Heinemann’s editorial team with both Linda Mohamed and Vanessa Phan stepping up.
Linda Mohamed has been promoted to commissioning editor, fiction, reporting to Ailah Ahmed, publishing director, and Vanessa Phan has been promoted to editor, reporting to Helen Conford, publisher.
Both joined the Hutchinson Heinemann imprint as editorial assistants in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Mohamed has gone on to publish Greta and Valdin by Rebecca K Reilly earlier this year, and has acquired Idle Grounds by Krystelle Bamford in an auction from Daisy Chandley at PFD (to be published in April 2025).
Phan recently acquired Structural Issues by architecture critic Kate Wagner at auction from Carrie Plitt at Felicity Bryan on behalf of Caroline Eisenmann at Frances Goldin Literary Agency. In September she will publish I Love Suburbia by Simon Pollock, acquired at auction with Helen Conford from Jack Fogg at Dunn Fogg.
Mohamed said: “I couldn’t be happier to step up into this new role within the publisher where I started my publishing career. The team are truly wonderful, full of boundless vision, creativity and enthusiasm, and I cannot wait for all the exciting things to come.”
Phan said: “It’s a real privilege to work with such a talented and energetic group of people who inspire me with their vision for Hutchinson Heinemann. I’m excited to continue working together and to start to build my own list.”
Ahmed added: “Linda is incredibly passionate and energetic about her publishing. I was delighted to see her acquire her first few titles and cannot wait to see how she shapes the future of Hutchinson Heinemann with exciting new voices.”
Conford said: “It’s a joy to see Linda and Vanessa step up at Hutchinson Heinemann and add their taste to the list. Vanessa’s meticulous and inventive editing is already a boon for us and her authors.”
