Little, Brown’s production director Nick Ross is set to retire at the end of the year following 50 years in the publishing industry. Ross has overseen production under multiple owners from Robert Maxwell to Hachette, and company names from Macdonald to Little, Brown.
Ross said: "What changes I’ve seen! I joined in the days of cow gum, Letraset and camera-ready copy, when a book took three months to print compared to three days today. I have been beyond fortunate to work in publishing and the UK printing industry, and to have been part of Little, Brown’s magnificent journey.
"It’s been a privilege producing a vast range of books throughout my career, The joy has always been rewarding, and the pain worthwhile, knowing that books can change people’s lives."
Charlie King, c.e.o. of Little, Brown, said: "Nick is the very definition of an expert. He has been the most brilliant production director for Little, Brown, and over his 43 years at the company he has been integral to so much of our success. We will miss him greatly: for his immense knowledge; his unparalleled relationships across the industry; his combination of creative flair and canny deal-making; and, perhaps most of all, his playful spirit and his wicked sense of humour. Nick has been a mentor to many and a friend to all, and he leaves behind a Production team at the peak of its powers. What a career, and what a legacy."
