Wydawnictwo Czarna Owca was founded in 1991, initially focusing on the field of psychology. In the last 20 years it has grown into publishing literary and commercial fiction, crime and thrillers, and expanded its non-fiction list to encompass philosophy, anthropology, mindfulness and ethics.
Notable authors published in translation include Caitlin Moran, Fiona Barton, Patrick Kingsley, David Lagercrantz, Kate Atkinson and Stieg Larsson.
Stockholm-based Piratförlaget began publishing in 2000, and is now expanding its reach beyond Scandinavia. Bestselling authors include Anne Holt, Jonas Jonasson, Kristina Ohlsson and Liza Marklund. Piratförlaget has begun its international programme with the acquisition of Nigerian author Ayobami Adebayo, whose first novel Stay With Me will be published in the UK in March by Canongate.
Louise Allen-Jones Associates has appointed Lucy Bushell as assistant scout. Bushell, a graduate of Bath Spa university, joined as a full-time member of staff after completing a three month paid internship with the company at the end of last year, and replaces Lily Buckmaster who has moved to live and work in Tokyo.
