Lucy Abrahams Literary Scouting is expanding into children’s and YA book scouting with the appointment of Tessa Girvan.
Girvan ran the children’s and YA rights department at Intercontinental Literary Agency, a specialist translation rights agency, for seven years, selling international rights for bestselling titles such as The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins (Scholastic) and John Boyne’s The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (Transworld).
She has since written, edited and proof-read books for children and has worked as a literary translator of children’s fiction, from Italian into English. Girvan has also moderated the Faber Academy Writing a Novel course and currently works with the Professional Writing Academy, providing editorial feedback for new writers and moderating their novel-writing courses.
For the first time since it was founded in 2008, the scouting agency is now also open to approaches from children’s book publishers in addition to adult publishers.
Abrahams said: “I couldn’t be more delighted to be welcoming Tessa to the team. I have long admired her professionalism and expertise in the children’s market and am excited to be expanding our coverage as we open a new chapter of the company, now going into its 15th year.”
Girvan said: “I’m thrilled to be working with Lucy and her fantastic list of clients. My publishing career began with a work experience placement in scouting, so it’s wonderful to be returning to the world that ignited my passion for the industry.”
