Lucy Beresford-Knox has been promoted to rights director for Michael Joseph, Transworld and Vintage.
She will be reporting to adult rights director Sarah Scarlett. Beresford-Knox has been head of translation for the past five years and originally joined Penguin in 2007.
The move follows Catherine Wood’s departure on 13th February. Beresford-Knox will be handling North American rights for Vintage and Transworld working alongside the other rights directors in the Penguin Random House UK rights team.
In addition to her work at the publisher, Beresford-Knox has been on the board of trustees for English PEN since 2023, working with the charity in a number of ways, and in particular contributing to their PEN Translates initiatives supporting literature in translation and diversity in the literary landscape.
Scarlett said: “I’m thrilled to see Lucy take this next step in her career bringing with her a wealth of experience and expertise. Lucy played an instrumental role in harmonising our team when we came together as one group PRH rights team five years ago and I look forward to working with her as we continue to grow our rights business. Lucy is a wonderful colleague and a great rights seller and I know she’ll flourish in her new position.”
