A mural created by artist, illustrator and bestselling author Charlie Mackesy has opened to the public at Sotheby’s Story Café to coincide with a selling-exhibition of his work.
Featuring the characters from his book, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, the mural shows the four protagonists in conversation with one another in different scenes.
The mural, the first to be created on-site at the cafe, shares an insight into the working methods of the artist, who draws multiple versions in different mediums — from ink to paint — as part of his artistic process.
An exhibition and auction entitled "Look How Far We’ve Come", featuring over 60 hand-painted and drawn, unique working drawings from the book, will open on 16th December, ahead of the animated film adaptation of the book showing on BBC and iPlayer in the UK this Christmas, and be on view until 13th January.
The animated short film will be accompanied by an animated story book, published by Ebury on 22nd November. More information on the exhibition and a video of Mackesy creating the mural can be found here.
