Marble Hill publishers has launched their ’Stand with Ukraine’ selfie campaign to help promote Will Blackburn’s book The War Next Door, My Journeys Into Ukraine.
Those who purchase the book are being asked to send a photograph of them holding the book to the publishers so the images can be sent to Ukraine.
These messages will be silent and anonymous, and will include no names, locations or words, but will be posted on all the local social media networks.
Blackburn said he knows how much the photographs that have already been sent mean to the people he meets on his continuing trips taking aid into the country.
The campaign was born after a number of readers posted images of their own accord.
As well as promoting the book, the publishers hope this will be seen as a urgent message of support for Ukraine, to show "they have not been forgotten".
Ukrainian author Andrey Kurkov said: “Today, more than ever, it is important to remind the world of the number of Ukrainian victims which grows every day. Stand with Ukraine! Please don’t let us down!”
Marble Hill added: "Will our campaign work? Who knows? But the situation in Ukraine is so serious that it is important (we believe) that we show the Ukrainians – who are fighting a proxy war on our behalf – that they have our moral and military support."
The War Next Door, My Journeys Into Ukraine is out now and available for purchase.
Selfies should be sent to: francisbennett1@aol.com
