Davina McCall and Dr Naomi Potter’s Menopausing: The Positive Roadmap to Your Second Spring, has sold more than 100,000 copies since its publication in September, according to publisher HQ, making it the UK’s bestselling menopause book on record.
HQ said sales across all formats total 113,000 copies through Nielsen Book Research and Pubtrack Digital, with more than 20,000 sold in audio. BookScan data shows it has sold 88,249 physical copies.
The book has enjoyed 10 straight weeks in the Sunday Times Hardback Non-fiction bestseller chart, with three weeks at number one. It has been supported by a “standout” publicity and marketing campaign, with Dawn Burnett, head of brand marketing at HQ, winning the Campaign award at The Bookseller’s FutureBook Awards this month. There are new campaigns targeted at Christmas gifting as well as New Year self-purchasing, as well as a focus on the importance of male allyship.
The publisher said: “For too long, women have had to keep quiet about the menopause—its onset, its symptoms, its treatments—and what it means for us. Menopausing will build an empowered, supportive community to break this terrible silence once and for all. By exploring and explaining the science, debunking damaging myths and smashing the taboos around the perimenopause and menopause, this book will equip women to make the most informed decisions about their healthand their lives. Menopausing celebrates the sharing of stories, enabling women to feel less alone and more understood, and talk openly and positively about menopause.”
McCall said: “I’ve been blown away by how many people are reading and sharing the book. It’s been quite overwhelming. I really couldn’t have asked for a better writing partner in Dr Naomi Potter. I love and respect her so much. We are both so happy and proud that so many people are arming themselves with this vital information. We need to be visible, be loud and keep talking, and long may we continue to spread the menopause message to absolutely everyone with Menopausing.”
Louise McKeever, editorial director at HQ, added: “This is a book and a revolution. I could not be more proud of what Davina, Dr Naomi and our incredible team have already achieved, and I’m so excited to do so much more. This is a book for women of all ages—every woman should know about perimenopause and the menopause long before we reach that stage.”
