Independent children’s bookshop Round Table Books has hired Meera Ghanshamdas as its new director.
Ghanshamdas, who most recently worked at Nomad Books as lead bookseller and Moon Lane Books as manager, will lead Round Table Books' strategy for the inclusive bookshop, taking up her role from the beginning of September.
She said: "I am proud and extremely excited to join such a passionate organisation and look forward to supporting Round Table Books CIC (Community Interest Company) in becoming an even stronger voice within the book industry. The past couple of years have only further intensified the need for books that are truly representative of the society that we live in.”
Located in Brixton, south London, the bookshop was founded by indie publisher Knights Of in 2019 after successfully raising more than £30,000 in crowdfunding to turn its then pop-up initiative into a permanent space. It focuses on stocking representative titles from a broad swathe of authors and illustrators.
Aimée Felone, managing director of Knights Of, said: “After what has been a tumultuous year for Round Table Books, we are so grateful to not only have survived the pandemic but also welcome Meera to the team. We are beyond excited to be reopening our doors and get back to serving our community."
