Walker Books has appointed Melissa Fairley as character publisher, managing the brands of Where’s Wally?, Maisy and Guess How Much I Love You, and developing new global franchises from across the Walker list.
Moving from her position as publishing director at Farshore, a division of HarperCollins, Fairley brings extensive experience in publishing bestselling and award-winning books of all genres. She has worked with established children’s books authors, such as Julia Donaldson, Smriti Halls, Joseph Coelho and Michael Morpurgo. She will take up her position in September, replacing Donna Cassanova who retires from the role after nearly 15 years.
Denise Johnstone-Burt, publishing director at Walker Books, said: "She brings a wealth of experience and entrepreneurial flair to our unique brands and I know will be a wonderful leader taking the Walker brands forward into the future."
Fairley added: “Walker Books is the beating heart of children’s publishing, recognised internationally for child-focused, innovative, inclusive, thought-provoking and funny books. The opportunity to nurture cherished brands and work with so many amazing authors and illustrators was irresistible. I look forward to playing a part in the next chapter of their story and working closely with the incredibly talented team to grow the list.”
