Pan Macmillan has promoted Vicki Mellor to the newly-created role of publishing director of the commercial fiction team.
Formerly a publishing consultant fiction for the company, she will join publishing director Trish Jackson on the crime and thriller team and take responsibility for digitally-led publishing across the adult division. Mellor will report to Jeremy Trevathan, publisher of the Macmillan adult division.
She will work with Trevathan on some of Pan Macmillan’s key authors, Jeffrey Archer and Ken Follett, as well as Ann Cleeves and debut author Sandie Jones, whose domestic thriller The Other Woman (June 2018) she signed a few weeks after joining the publisher last year. She will also be involved in future crime and thriller acquisitions.
Prior to joining Pan Macmillan in August last year, Mellor worked at the Headline Publishing Group for 14 years from 2002 until 2016. Formerly Hodder Headline trade contracts manager, she moved into the editorial department in 2007, becoming deputy publishing director in 2012.
Trevathan said: “As the crime and thriller genre becomes ever more the dominant genre in commercial fiction it is important for us to increase our resource and focus in this area and to further refresh our approach to digitally-led projects. I'm delighted that Vicki is joining us to work in these two key areas.”
Mellor said: “I have loved working at Pan Macmillan over the last year and having the opportunity to work with all of my new authors. I am very grateful for the faith that has been placed in me and excited to be able to use my past experience to help progress our publishing here."
She added: "Working with Jez [Trevathan], Trish Jackson and Wayne Brookes on their brilliant team has been a joy and I look forward to this next step in my career with much anticipation.”
