The Festival for Working Class Writers has partnered with Midas PR for ClassFest 2023, which will take place in-person in Bristol and online in November.
Joining The Bookseller, Bristol Ideas and University of the West of England as partners, and Penguin Random House as headline sponsors, Midas will be offering additional funding and PR support.
Festival founder and artistic director Natasha Cathew said of the news: “I’m incredibly grateful to Midas PR for acknowledging the importance of Class Festival, it means we can build on the work we did in 2021, by enhancing, encouraging and increasing representation from working-class backgrounds across the country, while connecting authors, readers, agents and editors.
“The Working Class Writers Festival will not only provide a platform for working-class writers, but will continue to set precedence among festivals that will make attendance more affordable and accessible to all.”
The festival and the wider engagement programme will showcase stories reflective of, and relatable to, the experiences of working-class communities, she said, adding that the programme’s activities have been designed to be physically and financially available to audiences with different financial pressures and outside of the usual literary venues.
Jason Bartholomew, c.e.o. of Midas PR commented: “The Class Festival is a mere one year old and has already garnered vast industry love, author participation, media interest, and the all-important festival goers in attendance. As we’ve seen some crucial festivals close this year, Midas is delighted to be working with a new entrant to the industry whose noble purpose is to support writers of diverse backgrounds. Coming from a working-class upbringing myself, supporting Natasha and the Class Festival Team will be an honour.”
Carthew said Class Festival 2023 is looking for further funding and is keen to hear from publishers and industry professionals who are interested in the opportunity to be festival partners in 2023 and beyond.
