Mitchell Beazley has scooped the first cocktail book from London gin pioneers Sipsmith featuring 100 “uncompromisingly delicious” recipes requiring no more than three ingredients.
Joe Cottington, senior commissioning editor at Octopus Publishing Group, acquired international rights in all languages direct from Sipsmith. The hardback book, Sip, will be published in September 2019.
After spending two years campaigning for a change in the law that allowed for the small-batch distillation of gin, in 2009 Sipsmith’s founders set up London's first traditional copper pot distillery since 1829. Over the past 10 years, a “ginaissance” has seen the category go from only 20 brands, to 860.
Cottington said: “Sipsmith pioneered the craft gin boom of the past ten years, and we’re over the moon to be publishing Sip, their first book. Their passionate team of gin experts are bursting at the seams with ideas and enthusiasm to help people to enjoy gin in new and interesting ways and this book makes it so easy to do that. Simple, perfectly crafted delicious gin cocktails with just three everyday ingredients that are easy to find. What could be better?”
Master distiller at Sipsmith and the book’s main author, Jared Brown, explained: “We have written Sip with the same mindset we had when we created our authentic London Dry gin recipe. It celebrates the beauty of simplicity and the fact that neither cocktails nor gin need to be over complicated. With one uncompromisingly delicious gin, sippers simply need two other ingredients and they can make 100 different cocktails to suit all the sipping occasions one can possibly imagine. With a few simple tips and an array of common kitchen ingredients, we hope the book will inspire the same amount of people to enjoy making classic and new cocktails at home, as we inspired to enjoy sipping great gin.”
