Michael Joseph is publishing Newsnight broadcaster Emily Maitlis' first book: Airhead: The Imperfect Art of Making News.
During her career Maitlis has interviewed a range of prominent figures, including the Dalai Lama, Donald Trump, former WHite House communications director Anthony Scaramucci and Facebook c.o.o. Sheryl Sandberg.
Intended to provide insight into what goes on behind the camera, in a series of “often surprising and warm, witty” anecdotes, Michael Joseph promised Maitlis will not only make sense of some of the most memorable world events in recent years but give readers “a real sense of what making the news is really like”.
Maitlis said: “The things captured on camera are only part of the story. Behind every interview are the pitches and compromises, the regrets, the rows, and sometimes deeply inappropriate comedy. Making news is an essential but imperfect art, and nothing seems to ever go to plan…”
Michael Joseph will publish the book on 18th April 2019, priced £20, following a deal in which World rights were secured by Michael Joseph publishing director Rowland White.
White said: “We’re living through perhaps the most dramatic and turbulent period of political and social change in living memory. Emily has had a ringside seat throughout. Airhead is a welcome chance reflection on it all, combining the authority and insight we’ve come to expect with wit, irreverence and an all too essential sense of the ridiculous.”
