Muswell Press has bought Hannah Persaud’s debut novel, The Codes of Love, in February 2020.
Sarah Beal, co-owner and director at the publisher, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights Laura Macdougall at United Agents for publication in February 2020. Audio rights were sold separately, at auction, to Ellis Moore, rights and content manager at Bolinda.
The Codes of Love is described by Muswell Press as “a wonderfully compelling and acutely observed novel which paints a nuanced and page-turning portrait of a contemporary marriage where all is not quite as perfect as it seems”.
Persaud is a winner of the InkTears Short Story Contest and The Fresher Writing Prize and has been recognised by the Royal Academy Pin Drop Short Story Award and the VS Pritchett Short Story Prize.
She said: "I am delighted that Muswell Press will be publishing my debut novel. As innovative and independent publishers it is a real honour that they have chosen to bring my story to the world. I am forever indebted to Laura who is the ultimate engineer of dreams."
The deal follows the news of sisters Kate and Sarah Beal taking on ownership of Muswell Press last year.
