Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi, a Ugandan-British novelist and short story writer, will chair the international panel of judges for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize 2024.
Nansubuga Makumbi will be joined by South African writer Keletso Mopai, Singaporean short story writer, screenwriter and novelist O Thiam Chin, Canadian writer and editor Shashi Bhat, poet and author Richard Georges and Australian Bundjalung writer Melissa Lucashenko.
"The Commonwealth Short Story Prize brings much of the writing world together to celebrate the short story form," said Nansubuga Makumbi. "As chair, I can’t wait to meet the talent the 2024 prize will unearth. I anticipate a diversity of worlds, a vast range of voices, some crazy tales, and the agony of making a choice. Bring it on."
The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is accepting entries until 1st November 2023. It is free to enter and open to all citizens of Commonwealth countries aged 18 and over. Submissions are accepted in Bengali, Chinese, Creole, English, French, Greek, Malay, Maltese, Portuguese, Samoan, Swahili, Tamil and Turkish. Stories which have been translated into English from any language are also accepted with the translator of any winning story also receiving prize money.
