Penguin Random House Children’s is to publish two new books featuring the pooping dinosaur from authors and McFly bandmates Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter, to be illustrated by Garry Parsons.
World rights in the titles were acquired from Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown, with the illustration deal signed with Claire Meiklejohn at Meiklejohn illustration agency. The first title, The Dinosaur That Pooped a Princess, will publish on 6th September 2018.
The Dinosaur that Pooped series launched in 2012 and has sold over a million copies in the UK alone, according to the publisher. The Dinosaur That Pooped a Planet has just been awarded a Nielsen Bestseller Silver Award, marking a quarter of a million sales. The series includes a World Book Day title, The Dinosaur That Pooped a Lot!, which was part of the 2015 World Book Day line-up.
The Dinosaur that Pooped a Princess is a "laugh-out-loud, rip-roaring fairy-tale romp featuring best-loved heroes Danny and Dinosaur", said the publisher.
It added: "There’s a brilliant twist that will get people thinking, but fundamentally this is an extravaganza of storytelling silliness, with cheeky Dinosaur gobbling up witches and wolves, giants and gingerbread men – resulting in lots and lots of perennially popular poo! And once they’ve finished with Fairy-Tale Land, Danny and Dinosaur will be poised to set off on another poop-fuelled adventure . . ."
Joe Marriott, commissioning editor, said: “I honestly have never laughed so much on reading a new picture-book text as when this poop-tastic treat arrived from Tom and Dougie. And I love that this story will challenge some readers’ assumptions about princesses – it’s funny and thoughtful all at once. It has been a dream working with Tom and Dougie – and with genius illustrator Garry Parsons – to bring to life a story that will have readers of all ages in hysterics!”
