A new LGBTQ+ bookshop opened its doors in Hay-On-Wye, Wales, on 14th August 2023.
Founded by advocate Thomas Owen, Gay on Wye will stock books that speak to the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community.
Stock will include fiction, non-fiction, YA, poetry, memoirs and graphic novels; everything from classic and contemporary LGBTQ+ titles to "hidden gems".
The bookshop’s aim is to become "a vibrant hub for the community and allies". The booksellers will host a range of events, including author readings, book clubs, workshops and discussion panels.
The store will also collaborate with local LGBTQ+ organisations "to become a catalyst for positive growth and representation".
Owen said: "Our bookshop is more than just a commercial venture; it’s a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community’s history, struggles and achievements. I hope Gay on Wye becomes a place where people find stories that resonate with them and, in turn, foster a greater understanding and acceptance in society.”
