Waterstones branches across the UK will host midnight launches, early openings and publication parties to celebrate Suzanne Collins’ second prequel to The Hunger Games, Sunrise on the Reaping (Scholastic).
On the night of Monday 17th March, Waterstones Piccadilly will be celebrating the publication with a special book shop lock-in event and midnight book release for customers.
Starting at 10pm, there will be exclusive events, themed windows and instore theatre, cosplay actors, face-painting, indoor archery and axe throwing, nail art, glitter tattooists, themed drinks and games galore including The Ultimate Hunger Games Quiz, with sudden-death round, and exclusive swag bags.
There will also be a virtual talk with David Levithan (Collins’ long-term publisher) and an in-person talk with YA authors Katherine Webber, Samantha Shannon, Bill Wood, Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé and chaired by Jack Edwards, ‘The Internet’s Librarian’, about the cultural impact of The Hunger Games. Please note that Suzanne Collins will not be present at this event.
Other midnight launches will take place at branches including Milton Keynes and Leeds. Attendees will be among the first fans in the UK to get a copy of Sunrise on the Reaping.
