Malorie Blackman and Frank Cottrell-Boyce are supporting a book subscription service that launches today (3rd September).
LoveMyRead will work with UK-based publishers to curate a selection of books to arrive at subscribers' homes on the day of publication. The team will shortlist six books for each subscriber, who will then pick the one that appeals the most.
The service, which targets both children and adults, will launch with a choice of three, six and 12-month packages. For every annual subscription, the subscriber may choose a school to receive a new book, or a donation via the Schools Library Association.
LoveMyRead will work with both Blackman and Cottrell-Boyce to select books for children, which will be delivered alongside an activity pack. Another author is also expected to partner with the organisation, and will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Tom Walker, founder and c.e.o. of LoveMyRead, said: "As a busy father of two, I know how tricky it can be finding time to choose a book. LoveMyRead will take the stress out of it. Having Malorie help select the best titles in a month is something really special – and who wouldn’t love a beautiful surprise box delivered each month! I’m proud to help get more books to more people and help schools too. We all need something to look forward to after a difficult year and LoveMyRead comes at the perfect time."
Blackman, who was the former Children’s Laureate from 2013 to 2015, said: "Stories mean so much to me, they always have. When I was Children’s Laureate, my remit was to get children reading more and that’s still my mantra. It’s the reason I write and it’s the reason I love to read and recommend. Stories come in many forms and our aim over the coming months is to bring a wide selection of stories that will entertain and delight. LoveMyRead is something special. I just wish it had been around when I was growing up."
