James Spackman, founder of the Book Pitch Doctor consultancy, is holding a charity masterclass with the Society of Young Publishers (SYP) and is seeking trade sponsors.
Up to 30 SYP members will be given free entry to a 90-minute webinar at 4 p.m. on 5th May, aimed at developing their skill and confidence at pitching books.
Spackman and the SYP are seeking sponsorship of places on the webinar at £50 each, from publishing firms and other book trade bodies.
All proceeds will be split between the Book Trade Charity, The Trussell Trust and Central London Samaritans.
Spackman said: "I'm delighted to invite young publishers to get involved in what will be an engaging and enjoyable masterclass. As the Book Pitch Doctor slogan says, 'pitching is publishing' – everyone needs to find their own way to do it well."
Carl Smith, chair of the SYP, said: "James is one of the most generous and inspiring people in the publishing industry, and we at the SYP are proud to work alongside him in supporting these charities. The SYP are all about helping those within the publishing community develop skills and connections that will help careers in the short and long term, and this masterclass is a chance for our members to do just that while supporting wonderful causes."
To sponsor a place for a young publisher, email james@bookpitchdoctor.com. SYP members who want to take part must register their interest by midnight on 3rd May.
